Fitting the Silicone Seal
To make sure your lunchbox stays leak-proof, the seal needs to be firmly pressed into the groove all the way around the lid using both hands. This creates the tension and “vacuum” needed for it to stay in place; otherwise, the seal won’t do its job of keeping the container leak-proof.
The seal is intentionally made slightly smaller than the lid circumference so that it fits tightly once pressed in. That’s why it may pop out if not seated properly. The grooves are also quite deep — this is intentional — so you’ll need to use your fingertips to push the seal in firmly, with the flat side facing down.
We’ve tested this lid thoroughly, and when the seal isn’t seated correctly, the corners may pop out, so it just needs a little extra care when being refitted.
If you prefer a container where the seal doesn’t come out at all, it would need to be glued into the lid — but that would mean it couldn’t be removed for cleaning. We love this removable feature of the lunchbox as it makes cleaning much easier.
You can watch a short video here showing the correct way to fit the seal (please note: these are our own containers from home — the one in the video gets daily use by our kids and has for over a year):
